Lewisville Schools Limit Free Speech

Angela Armstrong is proud to be a teacher and never thought twice about making references to her profession on her Facebook page.

But those online remarks could get her into trouble under a recent proposal presented to the Lewisville school district. It would prohibit employees from criticizing the district or even affiliating themselves with the school on social networking sites.

Yep this is a problem.

The problem is that educators can't be discrete when people pry into their private lives.

Anyway, Freedom of Speech is Freedom of Speech unless libel and slander are involved.

Better yet, as long as there is a reasonable expectation of privacy such as only friends and family can see the teacher's page then public disclosure by a non-friend or non-family member is a violation of privacy even if the public disclosure is the truth.

Don't add students to your network! Don't add parents either!

Sue the jerk who pretended to be your social network friend but got you fired for public disclosure, a violation of your right to privacy.

So you like to bar hop and take pictures with your friends on your own time. The truth is not a defense for public disclosure! Sue the jerk making it a big deal at your job. How would they know? They were at the same bar?!?! Stalking you! Or you added them to your network thinking they were someone else. Again, they were stalking you!!!

If any policies are created by an institution that violates employee privacy, the institution should not be immune neither.

We need to regain our privacy rights.. too many elements are around forcing you to think, act, and behave a certain way. That's not freedom. The people who say this country stands for liberty and freedom are liars.

Are you talking to me?

The real topic of teacher's posting things like TMI you edit when I discuss what I was traumatized to find. Teachers need to be discrete, like any professional.
Like talk about free speech... If that teacher had guidelines like the LISD BoT and administration are developing (as in work in process)I never would have saw about her "things" that you delete.
It's a good thing... as Martha Stewart says...
